Construction Begins on New Affordable Senior Housing Complex, Hale Makana O Mo‘ili‘ili

July 12, 2022

Moss has begun construction on Hale Makana O Mo‘ili‘ili, a much-needed affordable senior rental complex in urban Honolulu.

The project from Mark Development will provide 105 affordable rental units to kupuna aged 55 and above who earn no more than 30%, 50% or 60% of the area median income (AMI).

Hale Makana O Mo‘ili‘ili will be a modern six-story building with studios and one-bedroom apartments. It will feature a community resource center with computer lab, multi-purpose room for resident gatherings, laundry facility, finished rooftop open space and covered parking.

The pedestrian-friendly Mo‘ili‘ili community –a desirable neighborhood for its convenience to services, jobs, health care, education and public transportation – is undergoing a transformation. The Hale Makana O Mo‘ili‘ili site, for example, once was home to an outdated low-density apartment building and a small single-family residence.

Moss expects to complete construction in early 2023. Anthony Musielak is the project executive and Reggie Castillo is the general superintendent, while Manuela Melo serves as the project manager.
