Several dozen Junior Enlisted Marine families in the Hawai’i Loa neighborhood at Marine Corps Base Hawai‘i (MCBH) are now settling into newly renovated homes, thanks to a $19.6 million investment. The first families began moving into these upgraded residences in early February.
To mark the occasion, Hunt Military Communities celebrated an official key turnover event with base leadership in early March. MCBH was represented by the Installation Commanding Officer, Col. Jeremy W. Beaven, and Faye Tukes, its military housing director.
Hunt proudly celebrated with the Hawai‘i Loa community by hosting an open house event, inviting its resident families to tour two newly renovated units.
To minimize disruption to families, Hawai‘i Loa units were completed during periods of vacancy between occupancies. Launched in October of last year, the project aims to upgrade the interiors of all 237 homes, with completion anticipated by late 2028.
Kitchens and baths are being upgraded with new cabinets, LED lighting, and flooring. Interior doors and ceiling fans are also being replaced throughout each residence. Unlimited Construction is the general contractor for the project.
Hunt Military Communities supports Hawai‘i’s local construction industry through ongoing investments across its statewide Navy and Marine housing portfolio. Every day, dozens of local subcontractors, hundreds of skilled tradespeople, and over 200 Hunt employees contribute to the maintenance and improvement of these communities.
“We are honored to provide these renovated homes to our brave Marines and their families,” explains Brent Arakaki, director of development for Hunt Military Communities. “Our mission is to provide our military families throughout the state with comfortable and safe housing they are proud to call home.”
In 2026, Hunt Military Communities plans approximately $42 million in capital improvement projects for its Navy and Marine housing at Joint Base Pearl Harbor-Hickam and MCBH. An additional $57 million in construction volume was carried over to this year because of multi-year projects.
Hunt Military Communities, which owns more than 7,000 units of military housing across Hawai‘i and is the largest owner of military housing in the U.S., continuously invests in its residences as part of its commitment to quality housing for those who protect our country.
Kahu Kordell Kekoa led a traditional Hawaiian blessing of Hawai’i Loa in early March. He was joined by Faye Tukes, military housing director of MCBH; Jessica Dumadag, HMC director of operations; Jeff Choi, HMC vice president of operations; Col. Jeremy W. Beaven, installation commanding officer of MCBH; Brent Arakaki, HMC director of development; and Clint Colescott, HMC senior project manager.
