Local entrepreneurs continue to flock to Hawai‘i Kai Shopping Center, which continues to add local small businesses — new eateries, stores and services — to its tenant mix.
Newly Opened: Bakehouse by Island Brew (494 square feet): Pei-Yu Wen was already the owner of the successful Island Brew Coffeehouse when she decided to expand next door. Bakehouse by Island Brew celebrated its grand opening in early August after a soft opening in July. Customers can enjoy fresh bread, desserts, savory and sweet baked goods, ice cream and milkshakes, with comfortable seating right outside the bakery door. Bakehouse by Island Brew is located just steps away from its sister, popular Island Brew Coffeehouse.
Newly Opened: Island Family Chiropractic (845 square feet): Located next to Leahi Health and Territorial Savings, Island Family Chiropractic is new to Hawai‘i Kai Shopping Center, but not new to the East O‘ahu community; it built an existing customer base during its years at a nearby center.
Relocated: Tattoo Labyrinth (699 square feet): Tattoo Labyrinth first opened at Hawai‘i Kai Shopping Center in 2024 and is now located on the second story above Noods Ramen Bar. Tattoo Labyrinth’s artists create custom body art in a variety of styles.
New Lease: The wildly popular South Korean chain CU Convenience (1,326 square feet) will open in Hawai‘i Kai Shopping Center in a first for the area. Located next to Hana Sushi along Keahole Street, the store is expected to open in early 2027.
Events: The Saturday Farmers’ Market, which launched in June in partnership with Abl Market, continues to grow and bring farm-fresh vegetables, fruit, flowers and prepared food to the East O‘ahu community every Saturday from 8 a.m. to noon.
Hunt is in discussions with Abl Market to try to develop other programs as part of its commitment to sustainable agriculture, bringing produce directly from local farms to the community and into island cuisine.
