Hunt Companies Hawai'i Marks One Year at Hawai'i Kai Shopping Center with New Programming and Property Investments

July 28, 2026

As Hunt Companies commemorates the first anniversary of its acquisition of Hawai'i Kai Shopping Center, the company remains committed to advancing property enhancements and community programming that reflect long-term investment in the surrounding neighborhood.

Community Programming

Saturday Farmers Market
Farm-fresh vegetables, fruit, flowers and prepared foods are now available every Saturday from 8 a.m. to noon as Hawai'i Kai Shopping Center hosts farmers who focus on regenerative and organic practices, in partnership with Ali'i Market. Vendors will vary slightly week to week, but all share a commitment to sustainable agriculture, bringing produce directly from local farms to the community and into island kitchens.

"Hawai'i Kai has a strong sense of place and community pride," explains Mike Lam, senior vice president of Hunt Companies Hawai'i. "The farmers market and the Hawai'i Kai Independence Day Market & Concert are our ways of honoring that, giving neighbors a reason to gather and celebrate what makes East Oahu special."

Year-round, free events at Hawai'i Kai Shopping Center include Aloha Friday "Pau Hana with a Purpose" at The Lounge. Starting at 5 p.m. every Friday, the Henry Kapono Foundation presents live music, ono pupus and signature cocktails against a backdrop of a waterfront sunset.

Elevated Community Events at No Cost
In celebration of the nation's 250th anniversary earlier this month, the center presented the community with a gift: the free Hawai'i Independence Day Market & Concert featuring a full slate of award-winning live performers, including Henry Kapono, Kapena, Mana'o Company, Hawaiian Style Band and Maunalua. A special Independence Day marketplace accompanied the concert, showcasing a wide array of prepared foods, apparel, accessories and gifts.

Capital Improvements
Hunt has also invested in a series of physical upgrades to the property:

  • New siding: Hawai'i Kai Shopping Center recently completed its first major upgrade, with Beachside Roofing replacing aging shingles for a more consistent, updated look.
  • Seawall repair: The seawall spanning the property's full 145,000 square feet has been fully repaired. Contractor Sea Engineering Inc. completed the $2.6 million project in June.
  • Common area redesign: Hunt has engaged an architectural firm to reimagine the center's common areas into outdoor spaces designed to enhance the customer experience for everyday visits and community gatherings alike. New common areas are expected to debut in phases over the next year.
