Hunt Companies Hawai'i Team Helps Conserve Maunalua Bay in East Honolulu

July 28, 2026

In June, Hunt Companies Hawai'i traded the office for the shoreline. The entire team spent the day volunteering with Malama Maunalua, a nonprofit conserving the marine environment of the Paiko Restoration Area — just minutes from Hunt's Hawai'i Kai Shopping Center.

Hunt Companies Hawai'i President Steve Colon and the 'ohana removed invasive alien algae from the nearshore waters for a morning, clearing the way for healthier reef habitats, more robust fish populations and better water quality in one of the largest bays in the main Hawaiian Islands.

"As a lifelong resident of East Honolulu, I am convinced that we as a community need to leave our children and grandchildren a healthy and sustainable Maunalua Bay," explains Paul Kay, executive vice president of Hunt Companies Hawai'i. "This is a biological and cultural treasure, and caring for it is our kuleana."
