An $19.6 million renovation project is underway in the Hawai‘i Loa neighborhood of Marine Corps Base Hawai‘i (MCBH). Residents are expected to move into the first of the upgraded homes before the holidays.
The project, launched in October, will revamp the interiors of 236 homes by late 2028, and will include renovated kitchens and baths with new cabinets, LED lighting and flooring. Interior doors and ceiling fans are also being replaced throughout each residence. To minimize disruption to families, units are renovated when vacant upon change of occupancy.
“This renovation project will improve the quality of life for our Junior Enlisted families living in Hawai‘i Loa,” explains Brent Arakaki, director of development for Hunt Military Communities. “Our mission is to provide our military families with comfortable and safe housing they are proud to call home.”
Unlimited Construction serves as the general contractor, supporting Hunt Military Communities’ ongoing investment in its statewide Navy and Marine housing portfolio. This commitment provides consistent opportunities for the local construction industry, engaging dozens of subcontractors and hundreds of skilled tradespeople daily, alongside more than 200 Hunt Military Communities employees, to maintain and enhance its properties.
In 2025, Hunt Military Communities invested approximately $35 million in capital improvement projects between Joint Base Pearl Harbor-Hickam and MCBH; another $36 million is planned for 2026.
Hunt Military Communities — which owns more than 7,000 units of military housing across Hawai‘i and is the largest owner of military housing in the U.S. — is continuously investing in its residences as part of its commitment to quality housing for those who protect our country.
