Of the more than 7,000 residences Hunt Military Communities manages in Hawai'i, 251 are historic homes, many predating World War II. Preserving these homes is a responsibility Hunt Military Communities takes with the utmost care.
Hunt Military Communities has completed a $1.7 million exterior restoration at 23 homes in the Heleloa neighborhood at Marine Corps Base Hawaii. Over an eight-month period, Alan Shintani Inc., JD Painting, Protech Roofing and Tania Mechanical performed comprehensive repairs to the homes' windows, doors, wood trim and screens, followed by complete exterior repainting. The homes also received new attic insulation and air-conditioning upgrades to enhance cooling system performance and improve overall indoor comfort for Marine residents.
The Heleloa homes were built between 1939 and 1941 on the hillside of the Mokapu Peninsula, which affords its residents panoramic views of the ocean. The homes were extensively renovated in 2008.
"It is both an honor and a privilege to care for the historic residences at Heleloa, a special neighborhood that has long welcomed Marine Corps leadership and generations of Marine families who call it home," explains Brent Arakaki, director of development for Hunt Military Communities.
