Hunt Moves Forward with Property Improvements, Tenant Growth and Community Engagement at the Hawai‘i Kai Shopping Center

April 30, 2026

Since acquiring Hawai‘i Kai Shopping Center in the summer of 2025, Hunt Companies Hawai‘i has begun a series of planned investments in property enhancements, tenant growth, and community programming that underscore its focus on thoughtful stewardship and long-term value for the Hawai‘i Kai community.

CENTER IMPROVEMENTS

Seawall Repairs

In mid-January, Hunt launched its first major improvement project at the Center: repair of the seawall that spans the entire 145,000-squarefoot property. This seawall plays a crucial role in controlling erosion, preserving the marina’s integrity, and providing structural support. The repairs are expected to be completed by the end of the summer. Contractor Sea Engineering, Inc. is overseeing the $2.6 million project.

Roof Repairs

In February, Hunt began roof repairs throughout the Center to address the appearance of aging shingles. Beachside Roofing is completing the work, which includes replacing the shingles with siding. The project is anticipated to continue through April 2026.

Tenants

Kapono’s at The Lounge has opened, and features live music, ono food, and signature cocktails right on the water. A collaboration between Henry Kapono, his foundation, and The Lounge at Island Sound Studios, this venue marks the beginning of an exciting new chapter for live, local music.

Island Brew Coffeehouse is planning an expansion of its operations. The additional space will support coffee, espresso, and food offerings, with opening details to be announced at a later date.

Tamara & Co., an upcoming jewelry boutique opening its first physical location, is planning to join the Center. Opening details will be announced at a later date.

Community Events

In December, in conjunction with the 28th Annual Festival of Lights (better known as the Hawai‘i Kai Boat Parade), the Center hosted a familyfriendly “Snowy Night,” featuring specially delivered frozen ice crystals for playful fun. The event, free with a canned-food donation for the Hawai‘i Foodbank, reflects Hunt’s ongoing interest in creating meaningful community moments.

Information on future community events will be shared as available.
