Kalaeloa Professional Center was a hive of activity on the last Sunday of August when it served as the starting and ending point for the Runner’s HI 20K Community Run & Walk for the very first time.
The Runner’s HI 20K course wound through Kalaeloa Town and greater Kalaeloa along flat City and County of Honolulu roads, passing Coral Crater Adventure Park, American Renaissance Academy and Wākea Garden Apartments.
Kalaeloa Professional Center is a fully occupied, 50,000-square-foot office building on Saratoga Road that is home to 15 businesses, but on race day, it was celebration central with more than 500 participants in their custom finishers’ shirts, enjoying refreshments and celebrating with loved ones who came out to cheer them on.
The Runner’s HI 20K is the second of four races presented by Shaka Racing in partnership with the Mid-Pacific Road Runners Club. Held each August through November, the series builds in difficulty race by race, giving runners and walkers a structured path toward the Honolulu Marathon in December.
This is not the first time in recent months that Kalaeloa Town has drawn in fitness enthusiasts and fun-seekers. The family-friendly Bubble Run took place on its streets last October with roughly 7,000 colorful participants.
