In July, the Hunt Companies Hawai‘i team had the privilege of volunteering at the Daniel K. Akaka VA Clinic’s ‘Ohana Open Market. Held on the second Friday of each month, the ‘Ohana Open Market is the Akaka VA Clinic’s most popular outreach program in Kalaeloa Town, providing free groceries to hundreds of veterans and active-duty service members through the support of Hawai‘i Foodbank and Armed Services YMCA Hawai‘i.
Hunt employees helped distribute bread, a variety of fresh produce and bags of rice. The Hunt team was also able to assist the veterans directly by helping them as they navigated the food lines.
The morning held special significance for the Hunt Companies Hawai‘i ‘ohana, given their strong military connections. President Steve Colón, a Navy and Naval Reserve veteran with 26 years of service, leads the team. Additionally, Executive Assistant Kelly Morioka has a son serving in the Coast Guard, and Accounts Payable Coordinator Jen Rice is married to an Army veteran.
Hunt takes pride in its long-standing commitment to supporting the local community. The Hawai‘i team actively serves on nine local nonprofit boards and engages with nearly 20 community and civic organizations. In 2024, Hunt contributed over $150,000 to nearly three dozen local nonprofits, marking a more than 10% increase from the previous year.
