Kaua’i’s First Slow-Resistance Pilates Studio Opens at ‘Ahiumanu on the North Shore

April 30, 2026

‘Ahiumanu, the award-winning and nearly fully occupied neighborhood center on Kaua‘i’s North Shore, now proudly hosts The Practice, the island’s only modern Pilates studio.

Opened in November by certified Pilates and yoga instructor Taryn Davis, The Practice is nestled between Kaua‘i Juice Co. and Kılauea Phys Ed. This modern studio introduces Kaua‘i’s only X-Former machines and offers a distinctive, slow-moving, spring-based resistance training method designed to engage every muscle group in an efficient 45-minute class. “This workout is for everyone! Our clients range from teens to those in their 80s. Because the slow-resistance training is gentle on the joints while still building strength and muscle, it’s ideal for all fitness levels. Every movement is intentionally programmed to maximize muscular engagement, endurance and control,” explains Davis.

The Practice takes pride in its team of experienced and passionate instructors, many of whom are local to Kaua‘i. They expertly guide clients through modifications or advanced options, cueing every movement, body position, and spring-load to ensure even beginners can confidently follow along. With only 10 X-Former machines in the studio, The Practice has created a unique environment that offers each client their own personal space and allows instructors to provide personal attention and tailored guidance through the workout.

Classes are offered throughout the day for clients’ convenience. The Practice studio is also available for private classes or group events.

For over 30 years, Hunt and its affiliates have developed and financed properties across the state through innovative use of underutilized spaces and a dedication to master-planned communities and community centers. Hunt developed and continues to own and operate Hawai’i Kai Shopping Center on O‘ahu, as well as ‘Ahiumanu. These projects further exemplify Hunt’s dedication to serving the needs of both individuals and communities across the islands.
