More Than 3,600 Military Homes on O‘ahu to Benefit from $73 Million Investment

September 30, 2026

More than 3,600 Navy and Marine Corps family homes on O‘ahu will receive significant upgrades as Hunt Military Communities invests $73 million in capital improvement projects in 2026: $42 million in new projects starting in the latter half of 2026, plus $31 million in projects already underway. The $73 million total represents one of the company’s largest recent investments in Hawai‘i.

In addition to improving homes for military families, the projects will support Hawai‘i’s economy by creating sustained work opportunities for dozens of local subcontractors and hundreds of skilled trades professionals.

All Navy housing communities will receive landscaping and irrigation upgrades. Additionally, 16 neighborhoods will undergo extensive interior and infrastructure improvements, including replacement of flooring, roofing and water heaters. Residents will see refreshed home exteriors, new paint and rebuilt playgrounds.

Sustainability remains a key focus for Hunt Military Communities. The company continually evaluates opportunities to improve energy efficiency, conserve water and reduce operating costs, allowing savings to be reinvested into homes, amenities and community improvements for residents.

One of the largest individual projects will replace aging air-conditioning systems in 833 Navy homes at a cost exceeding $10 million. The project will be Hunt Military Communities’ first to use next-generation A2L refrigerant technology, which has a lower environmental impact and can improve energy efficiency.

Marine Corps Base Hawai‘i communities will also benefit from landscaping and irrigation upgrades, while five neighborhoods will receive additional enhancements that include new air-conditioning systems, exterior painting and other community improvements. As part of this work, Hunt will replace water heaters in three neighborhoods, converting existing solar thermal systems to highly efficient heat-pump water heaters. The new systems are expected to be nearly three times more efficient than traditional alternatives. The homes in the Waikulu neighborhood at Marine Corps Base Hawai‘i are among the more than 3,600 undergoing upgrades as part of this local investment.

The investment reflects Hunt Military Communities’ ongoing commitment to providing high-quality housing that supports the readiness and well-being of service members and their families.

“This $73 million investment demonstrates Hunt Military Communities’ long-term commitment to Hawai‘i, our military partners and the families we serve,” said Brent Arakaki, director of development for Hunt Military Communities. “Beyond improving homes, these projects support local jobs, strengthen our communities and ensure our housing continues to meet the evolving needs of military families.”
