In addition to the affordable housing projects led by Hunt Capital Partners, Hunt Companies’ affiliate Moss Construction is also committed to constructing affordable housing for the people of Hawai‘i, having built 27 projects across the state in the 10 years since opening here.
n Kihei in South Maui, Moss is building all three phases of Hale O Pi‘ikea, a $135 million project from ‘Ikenākea Development. The 223-unit affordable rental, at full build-out, is for individuals and families with incomes at or below 60% of the area median income (AMI).
Hale O Pi‘ikea is considered a Tier One priority project in the Maui County Affordable Housing Plan, which has a goal of building 5,000 affordable homes for local residents.
The two, four-story buildings in this first phase will feature 90 one-, two- and three-bedroom units. Moss is particularly proud that the project is building five units specifically for those with mobility challenges, while two units are for those with hearing and/or visual issues.
“Completion of the first phase is expected in summer 2025,” according to Anthony Musielak, project executive for Hale O Pi‘ikea.
In September in Waikōloa Village on Hawai‘i Island, Moss joined other project leaders for the groundbreaking for Nā Hale Makoa, a 140-unit mixed-income affordable workforce housing development of which 110 are for households earning up to 60% of the AMI and 30 units for households earning up to 140% of the AMI.
Nā Hale Makoa, a project of nonprofit Pacific Housing Assistance Corporation, will provide one-, two- and three-bedroom units in 15 two-story buildings along with a recreation center. The eco-friendly project will offer picnic areas, walking and biking paths, and a keiki playground.
Robert Tomas, project executive for Nā Hale Makoa, shared, “Every member of the Moss ‘ohana is excited that the first residents are expected to move in in early 2026.”
