Navy Families Enjoy New Playgrounds at Two Joint Base Pearl Harbor-Hickam Neighborhoods

October 15, 2025

Families in Hunt Military Communities’ Halsey Terrace and Hokulani neighborhoods are now enjoying newly installed playgrounds designed to delight children of all ages — and their parents.

The “destination” playgrounds with expansive play areas also create community hubs where relationships can be forged; resident children of all ages can play together while their parents enjoy camaraderie with their neighbors.

The project was completed this summer at a cost of nearly $800,000.

The new playground at Halsey Terrace is thoughtfully designed with separate play areas tailored to different age groups. “Tot lots” cater to keiki aged 2 to 5, offering ground-level activities ideal for toddlers, while a larger play area provides more challenging features for keiki aged 5 to 12. Swing sets accommodate children of various ages, and special basket swings with attached benches allow adults to swing alongside babies, creating a fun and inclusive experience for all.

Colors are vibrant to engage the senses and inspire keiki creativity and free play. All outdated playground equipment was removed.

The basketball court at the Hokulani Community Center — adjacent to the new playground — was also resurfaced as part of the project.

Hunt Military Communities is committed to creating neighborhoods that Navy families are proud to call home. The playground projects are part of its overarching community development plan to reinvest in their communities, ensure safe amenities and welcoming gathering areas for residents and their families.
