New Intersection Opens in Kalaeloa

October 6, 2022

Ahead of schedule – and just in time to ease back-to-school traffic – Hunt has reopened the Franklin D. Roosevelt (FDR) Avenue and Kamokila Boulevard intersection. The typically busy intersection was closed for about two months during the summer to allow construction workers to safely make significant infrastructure improvements to help transition FDR Avenue from two lanes to four.

During the closure, Hunt contractors worked seven days a week and overtime towards completing the intersection and opening two new lanes on FDR Avenue prior to the start of the new school year. The additional two lanes of the future four-lane FDR Avenue are on target to open in early 2023.

Hunt thanks the community and nearby businesses and organizations – including Costco Kapolei, Kapolei Judiciary Complex and Barbers Point Elementary School – for their cooperation and patience.
