U.S. Army Sgt. First Class Ivan Salame and wife Carolina are the first residents of a newly renovated home in the Joint Base Pearl Harbor- Hickam Hokulani neighborhood.

They received the keys to their residence on November 15th as ‘Ohana Military Communities officially celebrated the $29 million renovation of the Hokulani neighborhood with a traditional Hawaiian blessing by Kahu Kordell Kekoa.

In addition to the Salame family, special guests celebrating the first newly renovated homes included U.S. Navy Capt. Samuel White, Commander, Joint Base Pearl Harbor-Hickam. ‘Ohana Military Communities also welcomed staff from the Navy Housing Office, other Navy partners, members of the ‘Ohana Military Communities’ team and colleagues from Hunt Companies Hawai‘i.

‘Ohana Military Communities is committed to enhancing the living experience and providing best-in-class services for its residents, creating neighborhoods that military families are proud to call home. Current ‘Ohana Military Communities’ renovation projects at JBPHH, Marine Corps Base Hawai‘i and Pacific Missile Range Facility – Barking Sands on Kaua‘i total more than $73 million.

Hunt Military Communities (operating in Hawai‘i as ‘Ohana Military Communities) is the largest provider of military housing in the U.S. It owns over 7,000 units across the state.

Ivan Salame said, “We are filled with immense gratitude as we move into our newly renovated home, a beautiful gift made possible by the ‘Ohana community. A heartfelt thank you to everyone who contributed their time, effort and love to make this dream a reality. We are beyond excited to create new memories in this home.”

“It is our privilege to welcome the Salame family as our newest residents here in Hokulani, and we hope that they enjoy their new home,” shares Jeff Choi, Vice President of Operations, ‘Ohana Military Communities. “We are proud to serve military families with exceptional housing, neighborhoods and community programs, not only here at Joint Base Pearl Harbor-Hickam, but across the entire state.”

As part of the $29 million revitalization project, every one of the 190 homes in the Hokulani neighborhood will feature new luxury vinyl plank flooring, ceiling fans, all-LED lighting and water heaters, as well as restored planter beds and updates to their air-conditioning systems. Other exterior improvements include roofing replacements, exterior painting and installation of privacy fencing to create large backyard areas for every home; plumbing is also being updated.

A new destination playground is being created for the Hokulani neighborhood with expansive play areas to help create community hubs where relationships can be forged and where children can play together as their parents enjoy camaraderie with their neighbors. The playground project is part of ‘Ohana Military Communities’ overarching community development plan to ensure safe amenities and welcoming gathering areas for residents and their families.
