‘Ohana Military Communities Plans $71 Million in Projects in 2023

April 11, 2023

In addition to the $30 million renovation project at Marine Corps Base Hawai‘i’s Pa Honua neighborhood, ‘Ohana Military Communities is investing an additional $41 million into its portfolio of housing this year to improve homes in other Marine neighborhoods, as well as Navy housing at Joint Base Pearl Harbor-Hickam.

Sustainment funds will refresh 2,730 homes, which account for roughly 38% of its total portfolio in Hawai‘i. These other projects will improve community curb appeal with road repairs and provide greater comfort for residents with new appliances and high efficiency air-conditioning units.

Updates will include new roofs, AC and water heater replacements, and installation of luxury vinyl plank flooring, as well as siding repairs and painting, which enhance curb appeal and protect the homes from the tropical climate.

The company will also construct two large playgrounds at Pearl Harbor in the fourth quarter of the year: The Makalapa neighborhood will gain a park for children ages 5 to 12, while the Moanalua neighborhood will have a playground specially built for keiki ages 2 to 5. Both playgrounds will feature a soft, spongy surface and new equipment for the kids to slide, swing, balance and spin.

In addition, a number of the existing playgrounds and courts will be resurfaced, and one tennis court will be painted with pickleball lines for players of the fast-growing sport.

“As the largest owner of military housing in the U.S., we are deeply committed to honoring and serving members of the armed forces and their families,” said Jeff Choi, Vice President of Operations at ‘Ohana Military Communities. “Our mission is always to make a home a community, turn passion into excellence and positively impact lives.”
